Presidents report 2013-14

Last year was my first year as President of the School P&C and it was certainly action-packed.

The school canteen is run by the P&C and I would like to extend thanks to the managers and volunteers who put in countless hours of work to have the canteen function as well as it does.

The uniform shop has a staff of two who have made it highly accessible to parents and have made sure it is always well stocked.

P&C office bearers contribute many hours of their time each week to various services we provide. I would like to thank all of them for the support they have given to me.

The first event at last year's annual general meeting was being informed by teaching staff that there were quite a few gaps in materials that the department was not able to fill to be able to give our kids more choice and newer materials and equipment. It was extremely gratifying to be able to use P&C funds to purchase much-needed home readers and others books with teaching notes, as well as a large range of musical

instruments. Thanks to the generosity of parents and community members we were able to donate $20,000 for this purpose and the giant cheque we presented at an assembly last May to Mr Levett was certainly a novelty.

A major event on the school social calendar was the Halloween disco, although we toned down the horror from the previous October so as not to scare the smaller kids (and some of the parents) too much. The theme this year was Pirates and featured Davy Jones' Locker, made famous by Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Walkathon was another strong money-raising event and P&C members and other parents helped make that a successful and fun day for our kids.

The Markets we run 4 times a year have continued to be a great fund-raising activity for the school and they are enjoyable days not only for parents and kids, but also for local members of the community, many of whom are regulars. Much work goes into dealing with stall holders, organising entertainment and refreshments and wrangling with the roster. I thank those parents who have contributed their time and energies on market days, including cooking up a storm on the barbeque. It really is a major team effort.

Our playground is currently undergoing a transformation before our eyes and the end result promises to be fantastic. Once again the P&C has contributed strongly to this initiative through fund-raising, applying successfully for a departmental grant and dealing with contractors. Thanks in particular to all on the Playground Committee and to our After Care provider, who also contributed financially.

I would like at this point to acknowledge the efforts of Dr Keiran Scott and Robert Fairhead, the last two Presidents, as they got fund-raising efforts going in earnest that have contributed to the playground re-construction.

So, to those who have given selflessly of their time and efforts at Markets, on the BBQ, in the canteen to name a few things, thanks again. Without your efforts these fantastic achievements I have outlined would not have been possible and I'm sure there are many more great things the P&C will achieve for our school ahead.
