Fundraising

The P&C at Waverley Public contributes to funding for much needed facilities, resources and equipment to improve the teaching and learning environment; taking part is a great way for parents and carers to get to know others and to be actively involved in the life of the school.

Fundraising is as successful as the amount of time and energy parents and carers are willing to commit. Volunteering on events and activities has a direct impact on the school and enhances the learning and physical environments.

The P&C encourages all parents and carers to be involved in some way in volunteering. There are ample options, ranging from co-ordinating an event, to helping out on a BBQ on Markets day.

In the past 3 years, from 2013-16, the P&C has contributed significant funds, enabling the school to:
  • purchase dozens of new books and a range of musical instruments and sports equipment
  • enjoy major renovations of the playground, project managed by the P&C
  • purchase three interactive whiteboards for classrooms
  • install air-conditioning in the school library, comms room and two Eastern-facing classrooms
  • have veggie garden beds installed on the school grounds. A a 'garden club' run by a parent was kicked off in 2016, so that students can directly contribute to their upkeep and learn about gardening and sustainability
  • revamp the school exterior, including erecting new signage
  • purchase numerous iPads
In 2016, our main fundraising activities were the Walkathon and three Markets, run in April, July and November. We ran a highly successful Trivia Night in September and a Halloween Disco was held on 5 November. Other 2016 fundraisers included ArtWorks calendars and other products, using students' drawings and paintings. The weekly canteen is not only a supplier of healthy, well-priced food and drinks, but also generates significant funds for the school. The (former) onsite uniform shop and school banking also raised money in 2016.

The P&C office bearers and members regularly discuss with the school executive the best ways to assign funds to improve our school. Ideas are generated either by the P&C or by the principal and teachers.

If parents and carers would like to contribute ideas and participate in those conversations, you are most welcome at the meetings, which are generally held on the third Monday of each month during term.
